With snowshoes on Cornetto (Monte Bondone)

I'm back on the road to the mountains, this time in the direction of the district Bondone. To join me in this new range are Remigio and Augustine, the goal (initial) are the three peaks of Monte Bondone: Cornetto, Dosso d'Abramo and Cima Verde.

arrive in Viote, famous resort in Trentino, from which hikers, summer and winter, leave the "conquest" of the famous Three Peaks. We find room for your car in a parking comfortable paying just under the Palon, known to be top of the arrival of the ski lifts. From this point it is already possible admire the spectacle of the great plain that rises to form the natural reserve of three peaks of Monte Bondone. The snow load is crazy! ... I am increasingly aware that in this situation and with the avalanche warning in progress, it will be difficult if not impossible to travel around in the program. But we are confident and confident that eventually we can spend a pleasant day, accompanied by a bright sun that although it's still winter begins to bite firmly.
from the start ... or where to start the cross-country skiing :-) ... the area is well organized ... there is also the track for walkers ... good initiative, but it will force us to give up snowshoeing , being the very bottom beat. There then set off along a path that should follow the route 607; along the route Immortalize some glimpses as eloquent testimony " the amount of snow fall this year. The road runs smoothly, the slope increases and with it the softness snow ... well, put on snowshoes and soon after we arrive on saddle that divides the dorsal Cornetto with one that goes on Rosta. We'll pause briefly to admire a beautiful panorama on the Brenta valley below, and Lakes, the latter famous for its mild climate and the area Toblino, renowned for its beautiful lake and the production of Vin Santo .
Ok, after this brief digression culture, we look to south towards our first destination: the Croissant. We remain a bit undecided on which direction to take ... the signs are probably overwhelmed by the snow and we must then shift to the top of the mountain you see in the distance and traces of hikers who have gone before us. We decided to go in the direction of a small ridge which is slightly further east. The fund is sometimes ice cream and sometimes soft and yielding ... there are some spots where the snow has given way to the ground, aided by the wind that blows in this area probably in an "energetic". Our direction is "doctored" by the name of a snowshoe that crossing is little tempo ci troviamo sulla sommità di un dorsalino, dove intersechiamo una nuova traccia proveniante dalla vallata con direzione nord-ovest…
The landscape is getting more interesting ... but also the doubts are more and more relentless: it is able to make the rounds in the program? Too much snow! As we advance the seat narrows ... contemplate the two peaks before us: the Dosso d'Abramo and Cornetto.
Now we are stuck in front of us ... a critical point: the saddle is particularly close and the thick layer of snow that covers not encourage them to continue ... come other hikers who stop in the same place and with the same concerns ... even the slope leading up to the Cornetto will not instill much confidence ... study carefully both the traces of those who previously went on the march, and advanced hikers that we see the face of the slope Cornetto ... does not seem very steep climb some rocks and outcrops do not think too much snow in that portion, probably swept by the wind ... ok, after several minutes of study I decided to go ahead.
Supero stretch of the Saddle "offending", being shorter than expected, and again I find myself on a ridge wide enough and safe arrival and a few meters behind a small rocky ridge under which can be seen, half submerged in snow, support the work of wood that should be the route 617; diagonally through a short, steep (and a bit slippery) tract to get around the snow-covered ridge and find myself in front of the slope leading up to the Cornetto. Meeting hikers we had seen previously traced the mountain and ask about snow conditions and on the dangers of the climb ... I am comforted by the doubts and confirms my theory about the soundness of a given path, but warns on the slipperiness of some sections slope. Ok, I feel better, because by this point, the perspective changes a lot and climb out, something that seemed hard, it now seems more peaceful and secure study yet the slope and the tracks you see in front of me .. so many thoughts in my mind and a goal: the seat that you see on the right of the Cornetto ... better not think about the top of a goal that seems too risky. Begins to rise ... I try to go a path with a sure foundation, along what appears to be a large ridge that leads below the base of the mountain ... occasionally verges on the treats with outcropping rocks, indicating that the amount of snow under my feet ... the slope is not excessive, however, in some places is high and the slippery ground forces to pay attention ... snowshoeing, however, provide enough grip and then, albeit with a bit of effort, I can safely ad avanzare. ... weighted pitch but ... fast! I am finally in the saddle! ... The show starts to be amazing ... but I did not mind facing the camera ... is true, are now in a safe place, but I can not relax ... the thoughts are already turning to the east another half ... I see above me the short and steep ridge that rises to the top ... that is crazy? Traces indicate the recent passage of someone who has already reached the summit ... and staring at the snow on the slopes ... in my opinion is feasible ... I go!
The section is very challenging ... the tension and the senses are at the highest levels ... the snow is softer than provided significant and the slope ... every step must be studied carefully in order to avoid annoying loss of grip that could prove dangerous ... snowshoes can increase the friction, but if laid in the wrong way could also be the slippery bigfood often ... I look up to see the space that separates me from the top ... but the hard part at the end is pretty quick and after a few tens of meters set back in the slope and then give way to the crest of the Cornetto ... see in the distance are the cross ... on top! Fantastic! The combination of joy and the show reached the top of a 360 ° view my drunken mind! Everywhere I turn, I lay eyes on beautiful scenery (see photo below) ... this time it's appropriate to think of the camera :-)
Unfortunately, time is running out, I think to address the way back; one last look at the landscape and then I plunged down the steep ridge covered previously ... not easy, the climb was better ... the struggle not to slip is much harder! But in the end, the path turns back fast enough and soon I reunited with friends who were waiting for me. Short breaks to satisfy even the stomach and then take the path back. For a while

Conclusions: Although we have not achieved the objective of the three peaks around the (impossible given the situation on snow), has also been a wonderful trip ... well perhaps proved the most dramatic among those who have done this winter! Beautiful snow, superb skiing (although a bit closed in the middle) and beautiful views ... and of course good company :-). Even avoiding the most difficult part, that the climb to the top of Cornetto, is still a beautiful hike to be done with snowshoes, skis and mountaineering. Il comprensorio offre la possibilità di molteplici varianti alla portata di tutti; lo consiglio a coloro che vogliono avvicinarsi al trekking con le ciaspole, divertendosi.
